Today is service! In the scope of VISION Global Community Building, we understand service as serving each other as human beings. Oftentimes at our sites, service play out as direct service, but VISION’s priority is serving each other’s and our own social, emotional, and physical needs. This can include checking in on one another, helping a teammate fill their water bottle, or going on a run with a teammate in the morning at your site. As a member of your VISION team, we are in service of one another as well as our host communities.
It may feel like you are limited in who and where you can serve at the current moment. Right now, humanity asks us to serve each other intentionally, even if it is six feet apart. In a time when we can’t do forms of direct service, we can now focus on serving each other in unique ways. More than ever, we need roommates, families, and communities to be in service to one another.

Some aspects of service that we ask of our teams relate to what we can do each day to live intentionally while social distancing. One of them is to do no harm. Currently, this means staying inside your home or in outdoor spaces so we can work to flatten the curve. By serving yourself and those directly around you, you are serving your entire community by keeping each other safe.
Here are some challenges for you today!
- 1) Clean a communal space in your home.
- 2) Reach out to those you are living with and ask how you can best contribute to their social and emotional needs during this time.
- 3) Donate to a food pantry, or sign-up to volunteer with a small group if a local non-profit is in-need. (Many social service organizations continue to operate at full speed and are struggling to find volunteers!)
Sincerely,
Emma, Alaina, Mackenna, Joey, Andrew M., Julia, Aria, Katie, Andrew S., Maddie, Thuy-Vy, and Noah
